Whittaker Coachbuilders was established in 1992 by Yan and Jayne Whittaker. Working from a large barn at their home, Yan manufactured horseboxes on his own for two years.
His decision came after he bought Jayne a horse for Valentine's Day and went out to buy a horsebox. He discovered a gap in the market at the luxury end and after building the first one for Jayne, the business started.
After a riding accident in 1994, in which Yan broke his neck, collarbone, punctured both lungs and damaged several ribs, he was unable to continue manufacturing by himself.
Jayne employed five members off staff to work with Yan to ensure that the Whittaker quality and satisfaction was maintained.
This led to the expansion of Whittaker Coachbuilders and the business grew from strength to strength.
In 1996 Jayne and Yan moved to larger business premises at Gamston Airfield and built 30 horseboxes a year which meant the company soon became one of the leading quality horsebox brands in the UK. It continued to innovate with new designs while maintaining and improving on already high standards.
Tragedy struck in 2007 when 44 year old Yan was involved in a fatal car accident. Devastated, Jayne knew she had to continue with the business in the memory of Yan and to support her team, several of whom had been with the company many years.
Recent years have seen the company continue to grow despite more competition in the market place and the recession.
Whittaker Coachbuilders maintains its position as one of the leading horsebox manufacturers in the UK concentrating on quality with out compromise.
